Part wrapper from Gillingham, Dorset, destination unfortunately cut away, on front two good to fine strikes 'GILLINGHAM' udc in black, SHAFTESBURY date stamp MY 9 1848 with manuscript charge '2' and alongside manuscript 'Refused'. On reverse good to fine strike of the very scarce instructional 'CROWN/This letter has been REFUSED/30 MY 1848' hand stamp in red. (Ref 126645).
