DEVIZES (WILTS) '249' BARRED NUMERAL ON WRAPPER USED MAY 1844. Fine wrapper from Devizes to 'Messrs Hodding and Townsend, Salisbury' with 1d (SG8) lettered KK, just touched at upper left otherwise fine margins and tied fine strike '249' numeral of Devizes. On front DEVIZES and SALISBURY date stamps MY 21 1844, former with inverted '1' in date stamp. Good usage of the '249' numeral of Devizes during the first month of use. (Ref 128259).
