    1770 'T.W' LONDON GENERAL POST RECEIVER'S HAND STAMP OF THOMAS WHEELER OF THE STRAND ON LETTER LONDON TO WAKEFIELD. Letter from London 'To Mr Wm. Beatson, at Thorncliff nigh Wakefield, Yorkshire' with additional manuscript 'to be left at Mr Baildenes', dated 25th April 1770 and charged '4'. On reverse fine strike 'T.W' circular hand stamp of the London General Post receiver Thomas Wheeler and London Bishop mark '26/AP'. Thomas Wheeler was a General Post receiver at Strand East Office, using a circular 'TW' hand stamp 1755-1764 and then this 'T.W' hand stamp from 1770 until 1776, this being the earliest known usage of this hand stamp.
