Fine letter 'On Her Majestys Service' dated 3rd October 1845 'To The Secretary of the Admiralty, Admiralty London', posted unpaid with superb strike of the Portsmouth '2' hand stamp charge mark in black (HA1050). On reverse fair strike (over flap) 'PORTSEA' udc in black (HA922) small part overstruck PORTSMOUTH date stamp OC 3 1845. Writer is writing to the Admiralty on behalf of a widow whose husband died in China serving in Her Majesty's navy and is requesting compensation for loss of income following the Dockyard Improvement scheme.
