Despite its posting in 1844 on reverse fascinating insight into the loss of free franking due to the 1840 Postal Reforms. On reverse printed text 'dated 8th Jnauary 1840... as the privilge of Franking and of receiving Letters free has been abolished by the New Post Office Regulations... the omission of pre-payments will subject the Letters to double postage, ... you should pre-pay all Letters directed to them'.
