Very fine clean wrapper Kirkcaldy to 'P B Ainslie Esq, St. Colne House, Aberdour' with good 1d black pl.2 (SG2) lettered NL, four close but clear to large margins, scissor cut into design at left but tied very fine strike Kirkcaldy Maltese cross in brown, on reverse 'KIRKCALDY' date stamp 14 NOV 1840 in same shade of brown. MIke Jackson records an assortment of brownish Maltese crosses used at Kirkcaldy between June and November 1840. Rare. (Ref 145116).
