1886 MAIL USED IN LONDON 1d LILAC (SG172) HOSTER CANCELLATION WITH VARIOUS DATE STAMPS FROM ATTEMPED DELIVERY INCLUDING CIRCULAR MIS-SORTED HANDSTAMPS 'M/N/D/E' AND 'M/N/D/J'. Envelope, some creasing used in London with 1d lilac (SG72) Hoster cancellation AU 25 86 addressed to 'Mr Hilburn, 32 Ferne Park Road North, N.' with various London date stamps August 1886 from attempted delivery and on reverse manuscript 'Empty House...' 'Not Known...'. On front two fine strikes of the circular mis-sorted handstamps used within London 'M/N/D/E' and 'M/N/D/J' where 'M' indicates mis-sent, the two central letters indicate where mail was mis-sent to and the lower letter denotes the office where the mis-sent handstamp was applied. Very unusual with two different mis-sent handstamps. (Ref 144848).
