Fine printed letter requesting payment of outstanding debt from Richmond in North Yorks dated 22nd Jan 1848 to 'Mr M Bell, West Witton, Richmond' with manuscript 'Refused' and redirected to 'Bedale' with manuscript charge '2'. Also on front very fine strike 'WEST-WITTON' udc in blue and good strike very scarce handstamp 'CROWN/This Letter has been-REFUSED/2 FE 1848' in red. On reverse 'RICHMOND' and 'BEDALE' date stamps.
