Fine letter from Kirkcaldy dated 16th Jan 1840, six days after the introduction of the Uniform Penny Post, to 'The Secretary, Bank of Scotland, Edinburgh', post paid with superb strike Uniform Penny Post handstamp '1' in red, very fine strike boxed 'PAID at/KIRKCALDY' handstamp also in red and Edinburgh date stamp 'PAID/JAN 17/1840' date stamp. On reverse 'KIRKCALDY' date stamp 16 JAN 1840 in black. Very fine early UPP usage. (Ref 144708)
