Fine letter from Temple, London dated May 8th 1839 to 'E J Burton Esq, Daventry, Northampton', charged '8' and on reverse London date stamp 8 MY 1839. Letter evidently incorrectly addressed to 'Northampton' which has been crossed through, sent on to Daventry, on front fine to very fine strike 'MISSENT TO/NORTHAMPTON' handstamp in black (NN142). Letter references politics 'So the Downing Street Malefactors were Cancelled into eternity yesterday. They died it appears as they lived hardened and impenitent .... The Good Speaker has retired too, to be replaced it is said by that nice man Spring Rice...'. (Ref 144662).
