1840 MAIL DEMERARA, BRITISH GUIANA TO LONDON, REDIRECTED TO JERSEY WITH VERY FINE 1d GREY-BLACK PL.3 (SG3)(PA). Very fine entire letter from Demerara, British Guiana, dated 8 July 1840 to 'Mrs Bagot, Care of Charles Richardson Esq, 145 London Hall St, London' with charge of '8' deleted and manuscript 'Pr Royalist to Plymouth'. Letter redirected to 'Mrs Bagot, St Heliers, Jersey' with very fine 1d grey-black pl.3 (SG3) lettered PA, very fine four margins and tied fine strike red Maltese cross. Stamp shows 'P' very small loop (Spec AS21a), one of the few constant varieties found on plate 3. On reverse fine strike 'LIVERPOOL/SHIP-LETTER' and 'S' handstamps in black, also London date stamps 28 AU 1840. A remarkable usage and believed to be the only letter ex British Guiana with a Penny Black. Exhibition item. (Ref 144549).
