UNDATED 1840 2d MULREADY ENVELOPE LONDON TO KINGSTON, SURREY UPRATED 2d BLUE PL.3 (SG14) TO PAY 1-2oz 4d RATE. A good used undated 2d Mulready envelope, used circa 1845 from London to 'W M Christy Esq, Kingston, Surrey' uprated to the 1-2 oz 4d rate with 2d blue pl.3 (SG14) letter QE tied fine strike London '70' District Office numeral with a second strike cancelling Britannia. Mulready signed at lower left 'Joseph Hume' a Scottish radical MP and the addressee was an English Quaker Hat and Textile manufacturer, also involved in Banking. Mulready slight soiling, BPA Cert 2008 states ' adhesive variously defective and having large scissor cut, cover with thred splits, is genuine'. An attractive and very rare usage listed by SG at £35,000. (Ref 144041).
