1842 MAIL GATEHOUSE, KIRKCUDBRIGHT TO GUERNSEY 1d PL.22 (SG8) SUPERB STRIKE GATEHOUSE MALTESE CROSS WITHOUT CENTRE. Envelope Gatehouse, Kirkcudbright in Scotland to 'Edgar McCulloch Esq, 39 Pollet, Guernsey' good 1d pl.22 (SG8) lettered SA, just touched at right but tied very fine strike Gatehouse Maltese cross without centre. On reverse 'GATEHOUSE' date stamp AP 21 1842 and 'GUERNSEY' date stamp AP 28 1842. Mike Jackson lists eight examples of this cross between 2nd March 1841 and 18th June 1844 with five showing various partial missing centres but this example is probably one of the best examples recorded.
