1844 ANTI-GRAHAM CARICATURE IN BLUE FRONT ONLY, FINE USED IN LONDON. A fine used front only 1844 Anti-Graham caricature in blue addressed to 'Mrs Hood, 15 Elm Tree Road, St Johns Wood', on front at upper left fine almost complete strike 'Gt. Russell-St.C.G/1D.PAID' London Receiver's handstamp in blue denoting post paid. Also on front fine strike London 'PD' octagonal date stamp in orange-red AU 5 1844. This caricature was produced by Punch Magazine to satirise the Home Secretary, Sir James Graham for allowing the 'secret office' within the Home Office to intercept and open mail on grounds of National Security. This envelope depicts Sir James Graham dispatching his spies and with images of them in the act of espionage. Small tear at foot but only 13 examples recorded including two fronts, but not this example. A superb caricature. (Ref 143757).
