    1870 FIRST DAY USAGE 1/2d BANTAM PLATE ONE (SG48) WITHIN LONDON. Fine printed ballot paper in respect of 'British Asylum for Deaf and Dumb Females' sent from their office in Red Lion Square, London W.C. to a 'Mrs Howse, Woodbury Down, Stoke Newington' inviting the addressee to submit two votes from a list of seven candidates for admission to the Asylum. Wrapper slight peripheral faults but with fine 1/2d Bantam plate one (SG48) lettered KS tied very fine strike 'LONDON.N.W.' cds OC 1 70, FIRST DAY ISSUE of this 1/2d stamp. Wealthy benefactors of the Asylum were entitled to two votes as to whom should be admitted free entry for a three year education at the Asylum. All of the 1/2d First Day covers we have seen, few in number are from this correspondence. Rare. (Ref 143626).
