Good to fine wrapper London to 'Mefsrs Hodge and Hockin, Solrs, Truro' with 1840 2d blue pl.1 (SG5) lettered JA, cut into top and left otherwise close to good margins and tied fine to very fine strike red-orange Maltese cross of London. On reverse very clear London date stamp MY 22 1840 code 'R'. Mike Jackson records three examples of this 2d blue used on this date but not this usage. Faults but a very rare early use of the 1840 2d blue. SG cat £15,000. (Ref 143357).
