1840-41 MATCHED TRIO 1D BLACKS PL.1A (SG3), PL.1B (SG2) AND 1D RED PL.1C (SG7/SPEC AS8) LETTERED JB. A fine used 1840 1d grey-black pl.1a (SG3) lettered JB, four close to large margins, fine red Maltese cross, clearly showing 5 and 10 o'clock ray flaws NW square with VERY FINE PLATE WEAR. Matched fine 1d black pl.1b (SG2) lettered JB, fine four margins, red-brown Maltese cross, showing 7 and 10 o'clock ray flaws and constant variety 'HORIZONTAL MARKS NE SQUARE AND 'J' SQUARE'. Fine penny red pl.1c (SG7/Spec AS8) lettered JB accompanies, fine four margins, black Maltese cross and also showing trace of the constant variety 'HORIZONTAL MARKS NE SQUARE' and thinner check letters and upper squares following plate repair.
