    1766 MAIL COLWALL, LEDBURY TO KIDDERMINSTER WITH 'LED/BURY' TWO LINE HAND STAMP (HF225) AND 'X', CROSS POST. Fine letter from Colwall, near Ledbury, Herefordshire 'To Mr Wheeler, Attorney at Law at Winterfold near Kidderminfter, Worcestershire' dated April 29th 1766 and charged '2d'. On front manuscript 'X' denoting mail via cross post rather than London and on reverse good strike 'LED/BURY' two line hand stamp in black (HF225), filing fold clear of hand stamp. The Ledbury hand stamp is first type recorded from 1740-1790. Writer states 'Perhaps you will send a Parcel for me to the Fleece in Worcester next Saturday Morning by some Servt. or Neighbour of yours to prevent Expence of Postage and therefore I will speak to some Neighbour of mine that keeps Worcester Market to call at the Fleece on Saturday to ask if there is any Parcel or Letter'.
