1834 MAIL BAYHAM ABBEY, SUSSEX TO MAYFIELD WITH 'WADHURST/PENNY POST' HAND STAMP (SX1243). Letter from Bayham Abbey to 'Mefsrs. Stone and Barclay, Solicitors, Mayfield' dated 3rd January 1834 and charged '1'. On reverse good strike 'Wadhurst/Penny Post' boxed hand stamp in black (SX1243), filing fold just affects at left. Penny Post hand stamp only recorded 1835-1836, this usage predates by one year. (Ref 129575).
