1839 UNIFORM FOURPENNY POST LONDON TO SURREY PAYING 1D RATE. Fine 'METROPOLITAN LIFE ASSURANCE SOCIETY' printed letter detailing rate tables from Cornhill to 'Geo. Taylor Esq, Kingston, Surrey' with very fine strike 'CORNHILL/1D.PAID' London receiver's handstamp in red (L509a) and London 'PD/DE 9/1839' date stamp in red. Fine usage during the Uniform Fourpenny post period illustrating that if a cheaper postal rate existed prior to 5th December 1839 then that lower rate would continue to be charged. (Ref 141405).
