1784 'THE LONDON GAZETTE' ANNOUNCING CHANGES CONCERNING THE PACKET POSTAGE BETWEEN LONDON AND NEW YORK'. A fine copy of The London Gazette dated June 22nd to June 26th 1784, with announcement from The General Post Office that 'the Packet Poftage of One Shilling for a Single Letter, and so in Proportion, between London and New York, might or not be paid beforehand; but difficulties having arisen in the Collection of the Packet Postage in North America.... Mail absolutely to be paid to New York and also to Halifax, without which they must be opened and returned to the writers'. (Rerf 134259).
