A letter sent locally and by private mail to Newport, Isle of Wight, readdressed to Tilney Street, London and then again to 67 Marine Parade, Brighton, charged '9' and '1/5' respectively, on front good strike boxed 'POSTAGE NOT PAID/TO LONDON' hand stamp in black (L277). On reverse NEWPORT/ISLE OF WIGHT date stamp SE 28 1837 and London date stamps 29 SE 1837. Unusual usage. (Ref 126773).
