1843 MAIL NEW YORK TO SHAFTESBURY AFTER MUCH REDIRECTION. Letter from New York dated April 1 1843 addressed to 'Revd John Lewis Gillingham Dorset' via Liverpool with various date stamps for Chatham, London, Wincanton, Bath, Wincanton and Bath again, eventually arriving at West Stower Shaftesbury, on front fair strike of the boxed 'Shaftesbury/Py P.' hand stamp in black (DT461). Envelope has been slightly recut for display purposes and with a 1d imperf (SG8) that probably belongs. Unusual usage. (Ref 119657).
