1854 MAIL IRVINE, SCOTLAND TO HOLYTOWN 1D (SG17) CANCELLED BLACK NUMERAL AND 'FAKED' 'FULLARTON' CANCELLATION IN BLUE. Envelope from Irvine to Holytown by Airdrie with fine Die 1 1d pl.173 S.C.16 (SG17) lettered GK in state II tied light strike ' 186' Scots numeral of Irvine in black and fine strike 'FULLARTON' straight line handstamp in blue. On reverse 'IRVINE' date stamp NO 9 1854. A curious item as the blue cancellation looks good to us however RPS CERT (2025) STATES 'the blue 'Fullarton' has been painted onto the stamp which did not originate on this cover'. Curious because a 'painted 'cancellation would be inconsistent in appearance and secondly because the stamp is clearly tied by this cancellation and also tied at seven points by the black numeral! Sold 'as is'. (Ref 142263).
