Letter, some faults, from 'Whitfield Hall, Haydon Bridge, Northumberland' sent free mail to 'Mr Bright, Lamp Manufacturer, Bruton St, London' dated Sept 21 1839 and charged only '1' Penny Post. On front fine strike 'To Pay 1D. only' hand stamp in brown (L818b), on reverse good strike 'Whitfield/Penny Post' hand stamp in black (NR703) and 'HAYDON-BRIDGE' date stamp SP 21 1839 (NR315). Writer is ordering candle lamps and writes 'you may send the above by the Newcastle Steam Packet from Downe's Wharfe on Wednesday'. (Ref 130088).
