A good to fine used front of the excellent Thomas White caricature from London to Lockeridge, Marlborough, Wilts with postage paid in cash and Britannia cancelled red-orange Maltese cross. On front good strike 'Old Broad St/1py P Paid' receivers hand stamp (L506/OBROD10) and London 'PAID' date stamp 8 JU 1840. An excellent caricature with bespeckled elephants and many dialogue boxes. Whilst only a front an attractive and rare used caricature, Cassell/Hobbs record only 13 such examples including this one. (Ref 141087).
