1840 JOHN LEECH CARICATURE/LITHOGRAPH IN BROADSHEET FORMAT (368 x 260). A good example of the very rare broadsheet produced by Leech in 1840 (368 x 260) in black on thick white wove paper and printed by Fores of Piccadilly. Closed tear (42mm) at top, slight soiling and corner fault but a rare example of his original design. This original design shows a happy Britannia, at upper right a small boy dancing with delight and at upper left a girl with her hair in curl papers in the throws of composition. Also absent is the monkey in uniform seated upon the lion but with printed imprint at foot "This Design has (most respectfully of course) been submitted to Government by an aspiring Artist Mul-led-al-ready".
