    1840 POSTALLY USED SPOONER CARICATURE NUMBER 4 THE 'WRITING ENVELOPE'. Fine used Spooner caricature number 4, the writing envelope from Spalding to 'Revd Beale Post, Tovil, Maidstone, Kent', slight imperfections but of very fine appearance with post paid '1' in manuscript. Cancelled light strike of the red Maltese cross of Spalding, on front fine strike 'SPALDING' date stamp OC 9 1840 and London 'PAID' date stamp 11 OC 1840. Caricature imprint at top 'For we're all writing, write, write, writing,' with image of Britannia scribbling away surrounded by all sorts of people writing all sorts of letters. Original letter accompanies which details shooting experiences. Rare and attractive usage. (Ref 136803).
