Fine wrapper London to Ludlow with die 2 1d rose-red on white paper (SG40) lettered KC, showing misplaced paper feed, tied London '42' Inland Office numeral. 'Metropolitan Life Assurance Society' imprint at top, filing fold clear of stamp. On reverse very fine circular red embossed wafer seal 'METROPOLITAN LIFE OFFICE', London 'L.S.' date stamp 30 SP 1857 and LUDLOW date stamp same day. Fine printed content listing 'MEDICAL EXAMINERS ACTING FOR THE SOCIETY'. (Ref 116861).
