1911 FIRST U.K AERIAL POST, LONDON POSTCARD IN RED-BROWN SIGNED 'C HUBERT' THE PILOT WHO CRASHED HIS PLANE. Good London postcard in red-brown from London to West Kensington, unfortunately part of address erased, with KGV ½d tied good strike 'FIRST UNITED KINGDOM/AERIAL POST/LONDON' date stamp SP 9 1911 with the scarcer Die 5 used at Hendon Aerodrome. On reverse fine signature 'C. Hubert 9th SEPT 1911'. On Monday September 11th Hubert took off from Hendon but his plane was caught by a sudden gust of wind and fell to the ground. Hubert broke both his legs and was taken to the Sick Asylum Hospital in London and he took no further part in the aerial post. Very rare item. (Ref 142085).
