1842 MAIL GOUDHURST, KENT TO MAYFIELD, SUSSEX WITH 'GOUDHURST/PENNY POST' HAND STAMP (KT480). Fine letter from Goudhurst to 'Mr. Bufs, Solr, Mayfield, Sussex' dated 13 July 1842, post paid '2', on front fine strike 'Goudhurst/Penny Post' hand stamp in blue-green (KT480) and 'LAMBERHURST' date stamp (KT629) in black JY 13 1842. Apparently the original Penny Post mark supplied to Lamberhurst on the 14th June 1839 had an error of spelling 'Goodhurst' for 'Goudhurst' which was corrected locally by filing off the top of the second letter 'o'. (Ref 129341).
