1854-1856 THE CRIMEAN WAR, 'THE DUBERLY CORRESPONDENCE'. Four envelopes 1855-1856 all written by a Fanny Duberly from the Crimea to her sister 'Francis Marks, Arle Bury, Alresford, Hants', all charged '3' with 1855 or 1856 'POST.OFFICE/BRITISH ARMY' and 'ALRESFORD' date stamps. Mrs Duberly was the wife of Captain Henry Duberly of the 8th Hussars and was one a handful of wives permitted to accompany their husbands during the war. She wrote and published a journal about the war and her entire correspondence with the exception of these four envelopes and two other letters was donated to the British Museum in the 1950s. Mrs Duberly was a lady who divided opinion and the French dedicated a Polka to her 'La Amazone'. (4 items plus modern photograph of Mrs Duberly riding in the Crimea). (Ref 134260).
