1814 BANKING MAIL GLASGOW TO EDINBURGH WITH HIGH POSTAL CHARGE '5/3½'. Fine entire letter from 'Royal Bank Glasgow' to 'George Mitchell Esq, Royal Bank, Edin' which originally enclosed batch of bank bills with manuscript '2¼oz' and charged '5/3½'. On front 'GLASGOW/22NOV 1814' date stamp. An excellent example of the high postal charges of this time resulting in the postal reforms of the 1830s. (Ref 137019).
