Fine wrapper Leeds to 'Wm Hurst Esqr, Solicitor, Nottingham' with fine four margined 1d black pl.5 (SG2) lettered KJ previously cancelled fine strike black Maltese cross but not tied to wrapper, noticed by postal clerk as an attempted fraudulent re-use of a penny black and crossed through in black ink with manuscript 'used before' written underneath. Furthermore postal clerk has crossed through senders 'Post Paid' at lower left and applied very fine strike '2d' charge mark in black, postage due from recipient. On reverse 'LEEDS' date stamp FE 23 1842 and 'NOTTINGHAM' date stamp FE 24 1842. Karl Louis and RPS certs accompany. Probably one of the finest attempted fraudulent re-use covers we have seen.
