1844 DISTINCTIVE MALTESE CROSS OF DUMFRIES ON COVER/PL.36(OH)(SG8). Wrapper Dumfries to Edinburgh with 1d pl.36 (SG8) lettered OH with good to enormous margins, small incision mark into design at upper left but tied fine strike of the distinctive Maltese cross of Dumfries. Unfortunately a second stamp has been removed. Cover illustrated page 95 Rockoff and Jackson. On reverse light strike DUMFRIES date stamp JA 19 1844 and Edinburgh receiver JAN 20 1844.
