1841 MAIL ALFORD, LINCOLNSHIRE TO LOUTH 1d PL.6 GREY-BLACK (SG3) DOUBLE STRIKE ALFORD MALTESE CROSS IN BLACK. Letter from a Mr Taylor of Alford dated 5th June 1841 to 'Mr. Grant Allison Esq, Louth' 1d grey-black pl.6 (SG3), margins very close but just clear tied fine strike black Maltese cross of Alford, ALONGSIDE SECOND STRIKE ALFORD MALTESE CROSS, also on front good strike 'ALFORD' udc (LI25) in black. This double strike of the Maltese cross is usually found at Spilsby in Lincolnshire but Mike Jackson lists three examples not including this usage from Alford, the other three usages at Alford dated April 1841, 21st Sept 1841 and Nov 1841. Filing fold well clear of stamp etc. Rare. (Ref 143826).
