    1854 1D ARCHER PL.101 EXPERIMENTAL PERFORATION (SG16b)(MC) ON COVER USED WIGTON (CUMBRIA) TO WHITEHAVEN. A fine letter from Wigton dated 29th Septr 1854 to 'Messrs Armitstead and Brockbank, Solicitors, Whitehaven' with 1d Archer experimental perforation plate 101 (SG16b) lettered MC tied '879' numeral of Wigton. On reverse WIGTON and WHITEHAVEN date stamps SP 30 1854. Filing crease affects stamp, but stamp is well centred and the alphabet 1 check letters are clear of cancellation. Within is a 1d turquoise-blue postal fiscal with manuscript cancellation. Eleven Archers  are recorded on cover in Cumbria and this is one of only three used from Wigton. Rare provincial usage.
