1855 MAIL CRIMEAN WAR TO HEXHAM, NORTHUMBERLAND WITH DIE 1 1D PL.163 (SG17) X 3. Envelope, some creasing, from the Crimea to 'Captain G. M. Coulson R.N., Newbrough, near Hexham, Northumberland, England' endorsed 'via Marseilles from Crimea' and dated 'Feb 1855', on front good used strip of three die 1 1d from the very scarce plate 163 S.C.16 (SG17) lettered SC SD SE and cancelled good large part strike '47 47' double Inland Office numeral. Stamps show fine plate wear, SE corner fault. On reverse London date stamp 18 MR 1855 and 'HEXHAM' date stamp. (Ref 131471).
