Good large part letter, part missing at left, from Trumpington in Cambridge dated April 4TH 1648 ' To my Honoured Father in law Nathaniell Birkihead Esq, at his hous in Weake-field in yorkshire' without postal charge. The writer a R Lydsey states 'This shall be to mee as on yor special favour..... if you send yor letters on friday at night or Saterday morning early to the post mr. of Donkaster enclose yor letter to mee derected to mistres Short at the posr hous in cakaston write within hers to send your letters to mee with speed'. Letter without charge and carried privately as during the English Civil War the public postal service was none existant. Rare Civil War letter. (Ref 143053).
