Wrapper, peripheral faults and slight soiling from London to 'Mr W Baxter, Botanic Gardens, Oxford' with fine 1d black pl.1a (SG2) lettered TK, four margins and tied fine strike red Maltese cross. Within a very fine printed letter being the 'First Number' of 'The Gardener's Chronicle/A Weekly Record of Rural Economy and General News'. Letter states the intent 'in THE FIRST PLACE to make it a weekly record of everything that bears upon Horticulture or Garden Botany, and to introduce such Natural History as has relation to Gardening .....'. Slight imperfections but most unusual. (Ref 142883).
