1841 MAIL WETHERBY TO WAKEFIELD, STAMP FALLEN OFF COVER AND GOOD TO FINE STRIKE BLACK MALTESE CROSS. Fine letter from Wetherby May 25th 1841 to Wakefield, original stamp has evidently fallen off but postmaster has nevertheless applied good to fine strike black Maltese cross at upper right instead of surcharging. On reverse 'WETHERBY' and 'WAKEFIELD' date stamps MY 27 1841. Rare and unusual usage of the Maltese cross. (Ref 142374).
