1844 ORIGINAL 'ANTI-GRAHAM' CARICATURE BY JOHN LEECH IN BLUE. A superb unused example of the original 'ANTI-GRAHAM' caricature by John Leech in blue, in state one without inscription in lettersheet format. In 1844 it was discovered that some letters passing through the Post Office and addressed to or from 'suspected persons' had been opened and examined under the direction of Sir James Graham, Home Secretary. This discovery led to much outcry and the printing of this superb caricature with Sir James Graham instead of Britannia and such images as his spies peeping through keyholes and opening mail. A wonderful and rare caricature with Cassell and Hobbs only recording six unused examples of this state. (Ref 141097).
