CIRCA 1879-1910 THREE EXAMPLES OF THE 'PATEE FITCHEE' CANCELLATION AS USED AT HERTFORD COLLEGE, OXFORD. Hertford and Keble Colleges were the only ones to use a special obliterating stamp on their College stamps, at Herford they used an outlined cross 'patee fitchee', only one example on cover exists. Fortunately a few proof impressions were struck in blue, per favour but very rare. We offer three examples of this cancellation as a group comprising an issued stamp (CS4) with part corner missing but with good strike of this cancellation which is on 1910 'E. Leader' stamp dealer headed paper with note to 'The Earl of Crawford' asking about this cancellation with a note from 'E. D. Bacon', curator of The Royal Collection confirming it to be genuine. A very fine document. Accompanied by two fine strikes of this cancellation in blue on white wove paper. (3 items). (Ref 141052).
