1840 ORIGINAL SPOONER CARICATURE NO.8. 'ALBERT ROCKS THE CRADLE'. A good to fine unused ORIGINAL example 1840 Spooner Caricature No.8 in black on white wove paper with quasi-political references to the domestic life of the Sovereign. A grinning Britannia seated upon the lion with motto 'England expects every man to do his duty'. At upper left is Prince Albert rocking a cradle and saying 'Ah mine loaf, vat you tink I improve' and on the upper right are the Queen and Duchess of Kent remarking 'De Brince sall be very usefull at de rocking de cradle'. Other images are probably political figures dressed as nurses in attendance on the Royal family. Several tone spots reverse only. A superb caricature. (Ref 144536).
