Fine letter from Gloucester 25th August 1854 sent registered mail to Trieste 'Via Ostende' with good to fine 2d blue pl.4 (SG19) lettered TH, centred to left but showing VERY FINE RE-ENTRY MARKS IN UPPER SQUARES, POSTAGE, VALUE AND LOWER SQUARES (Spec F1g), tied '312' numeral of Gloucester and oval 'P' handstamp in red orange. Also on front 1s green embossed (SG55), cut into at upper left, filing fold affects, cancelled '312' of Gloucester and tied 'AACHEN' transit date stamp in red. Other markings include 'CROWN/REGISTERED' handstamp, 'GLOUCESTER' date stamp AU 25 1854 and on reverse 'TRIESTE' receiver. A very fine and attractive usage. (Ref 143517).
