Entire, slight soiling and filing folds clear of stamp from Carlisle, in Cumberland to 'John Adams Higham Esq, Royal Exchange Assurance Co. London' with fine 1d Archer Experimental Perforation pl.100 (SG16b) lettered OA tied fine strike '165' numeral of Carlisle. On reverse 'CARLISLE' date stamp AP 11 1854. BPA Certificate. A very rare provincial usage of the Archer perforation with only two others recorded in Cumberland a pl.93 used Kirby Lonsdale 2/6/54 and pl.98 used Penrith 17/8/51. (Ref 143551).
