1840-41 MATCHED QUARTET 1D BLACKS PL.5 STATE ONE (SG2 SPEC AS25), 1D BLACK STATE TWO (SG3 SPEC AS28), PENNY RED STATE TWO (SG7 SPEC AS29b) AND 1D RED STATE THREE (SG7 SPEC AS33a) LETTERED BA. Fine used 1d black pl.5 (SG2) lettered BA in state one (Spec A25) with four margins, red Maltese cross and showing NORMAL CHECK LETTER 'B'. Matched with good used 1d grey-black pl.5 (SG3) in state two, touched in two places, black Maltese cross and clearly showing 'B' RE-TOUCHED WITH SERIFS MUCH EXTENDED. Also 1d red in the same state (SG7 Spec AS29b) also with 'B' RE-TOUCHED, four good margins, paler shade and black Maltese cross. Additionally good used 1d red in state three (SG7 Spec AS33a) again with re-touched 'B' but clearly showing STRENGTHENED LOWER SE MAJOR RAY IN NE SQUARE. A rare quartet. (4 items). (Ref 141936).
