    1840 MAIL USED IN PETERBOROUGH WITH 1D BLACK PL.1B (SG2)(RA) AND 'Peter/Borough/Penny Post' HAND STAMP (NN197). Fine printed document concerning the 'Wittlesea Inclosure' written at Lincolns Inn and dated 2nd November 1840 but used locally in Peterborough to 'Mr Crisp for The Trusts of Robert Mugglestone, Peterboro' with 1d black pl.1b (SG2) lettered RA. Stamp with three margins and filing fold affects, but of reasonable appearance and tied fine strike red-orange Maltese cross of Peterborough. On front good to fine strike 'Peter/Borough/Penny Post' hand stamp in red-orange (NN197) and on reverse 'PETERBOROUGH' date stamp also in red-orange DE 26 1840. Good provincial usage. (Ref 133689).
