    1854 POSTAL NOTICE 'TEMPORARY ALTERATION IN AMERICAN Mail Packet Service' DUE TO SEVERAL BRITISH NORTH AMERICAN CONTRACT MAIL PACKETS DIVERTED FOR THE CONVEYANCE OF TROOPS DUE TO THE CRIMEAN WAR. Good 1853 postal notice 250 x 390 mm, 'Instructions No.71, 1854, referring to Instructions No.69, 1854.' from the 'GENERAL POST OFFICE, November, 1854' stating 'Owing to the Employment by Her Majesty's Government of several of the British North American Contract Mail Packets, for the conveyance of Troops, it has been found necessary to suspend, for the present, a portion of the Mail Service heretofore performed by that line of Packet; and, until further notice, the following will be the arrangements for the Conveyance of the American Mails.....'. Slight staining, repair at top and re-backed but a rare original document which references the Crimean War. (Ref 142227).
