    1834 ENTIRE AMBLE (NORTHUMBERLAND) TO WAKEFIELD WITH 'ALNWICK/PENNY POST' HAND STAMP (NR49). A fine letter from Amble to 'Mrs J Tootal, St. John's, Wakefield, Yorks' dated Dec 23 1834 and charged '1' Penny Post and '11' in total to include General Post. On front very fine strike boxed 'Alnwick/Penny Post' hand stamp in black (NR49), on reverse WAKEFIELD date stamp DE 25 1834, Christmas Day. Ex collection Ed Druce and apparently the earliest recorded use of the Alnwick Penny Post hand stamp. (Ref 126757).
